How to Do SEO Work on a New Website? | Learn SEO

The 10th session of question and answer group WA Learning SEO 2020 last Wednesday there was one participant who asked something like this:

"If you want to create a new website, what are the good steps?  As much content production as possible before looking for backlinks or what? "

Maybe this question is also your question so far. If true, consider the following explanation.

First time learning SEO in 2012/2013 the most confusing thing in optimizing websites with SEO techniques is where to start.

Especially at that time I learned self-taught, just reading the tutorials that were scattered on the internet. I learned various techniques and practiced directly.

There are those who discuss SEO On Page, there are those who discuss SEO Offpage (backlink), because of my ignorance, eventually I tend to practice all the techniques that I have found.

• Some write about backlinks, directly practice backlinks

• Someone wrote the SEO script, I put the script on the website

• Someone wrote about the service ping service, I practice directly.

• Someone wrote about Google Webmaster (Now Google Search Console), I immediately practiced it too.

• Someone wrote anything about SEO, I immediately practiced without knowing exactly what the correct step was like

The result

Of the many websites that I made as guinea pigs, there were only one or two websites that made it to page one of Google, the rest disappeared somewhere.

From there I began to study, analyze why this website could go up, why other websites didn't work up. Continue to learn and improve SEO knowledge by attending various SEO training from various institutions and various SEO experts until I find my own technique, which in my opinion is simpler and does not require a large fee to subscribe to premium SEO tools.

So what I wrote here is based on personal experience, the answer could be different when you ask other SEO experts.

Content Production or Backlink first?

The essence of the question above is which one comes first, content production or backlinks?

The latest Google algorithm update improves the quality of a website, how much benefit does the website provide to users of Google's search engine users.

Especially at this time there is an EAT algorithm that requires websites that appear on the main page of the Google search engine are truly trusted websites that are managed by experts in their fields.

How does Google know if the website is managed by experts or not? Of course with the existence of useful content, content that shows that the content writer is truly mastered what he wrote.

From here it can clearly be answered, between content and backlinks you must first create quality content.

In fact, it often happens to trainees either from paid classes such as private SEO, SEO courses or from free classes such as the Laskarseo boarding school which only focus on content without backlinks, the website has entered the Google search engine page for many keywords.

About Backlinks

So is backlink still needed for now?

To this day me and the team still use backlinks to boost rankings, only as needed.  All you need to know is the current backlink core on quality not on quantity.

Don't forget the fact that Google prohibits website owners from manually backlinking to their own websites. Google wants your content to be really informative and to answer in full the user questions.

That way the user was happy to share your website content in all online media it has. This is what Google really wants.

Step Optimization of New Website

Here is the order that I usually do in optimizing new websites:

1. SEO On Page Website Optimization: much as optimizing access speed, providing ease of navigation, smoothing the structure of website headings, spruce up the look of the website, etc.
2. Create a Home Page and About Us: The second step is usually done is tidying the home page first before launching the website to the public.  Next create a page about us or a page about us, this is related to the optimization of the EAT algorithm, here you can write who is the person behind the website that informs that the website manager is an expert in his field. Able to display titles and so on
3. Register website to Google Search Console and Google Analytics: The next step is to register the website to GSC so that Google immediately crawls and indexes the website, then registers on Google analytics to see the development of website traffic, etc.
4. Content Production: The fourth step is the production of as much content as possible and must be routine. Don't forget that the traffic is good, first research the keywords that you want to target and then from the results of the research you will create content that adjusts keywords.
5. Backlink: Sometimes it does not reach this step even the website has entered page one of Google with a variety of targeted keywords.  But if it turns out you still need a backlink to boost its ranking, start doing backlinks. Be careful in backlinks and do not be done aggressively, just slow down, relax.
